We are committed to principles and practices of decolonization, including settler responsibility for honouring the treaties and rematriating this land to Indigenous trust before the work of collaboration can be undertaken in good faith. We would like to be held accountable for the ways I perpetuate legacies of harm as an uninvited inhabitant of this land. We support the restoration and protection of Indigenous people’s land and resource rights for the benefit of all.
There is no prosperity without flourishing Indigenous communities.
There is no freedom without Indigenous liberation.
It is very difficult and deeply problematic to acknowledge the land we are on and the history it holds in a static format. A fresh and specific acknowledgement is written by a different participant for each of our events and meetings.
Without community there is no liberation.
– Audre Lorde
Who We Are
StrongHold is an intergenerational community QSA dedicated to accountability and community restitution through resourcing youth and connecting multiple generations of 2SLGBTQ+ people.
What We Do
We run a Queer-Straight Alliance for community members of all ages and their invited logical and biological family for an evening of stories, activities, political action, conversation, connection, learning, and unlearning.
Our QSA is comprised of two series’ of events:
Quarterly Storytelling & Skills events, which are large-scale evening events with speakers, breakout sessions, and snacks, designed with accessibility in mind.
Narrative Circle & Craft Nights, which run in months without a Storytelling & Skills event. Narrative Circle and Crafts events are more intimate, designed with continuity and connection in mind.
StrongHold is committed to making our work and our events as accessible as possible to everyone who wants to participate.
We are also committed to doing the learning and work necessary in order to make our events as accessible as possible to every community member who wants to attend. We welcome the voices of community members who would like to hold us accountable or to help in bringing us more in line with our accessibility commitment.
